Lorraine Syratt
Lorraine writes primarily about antiques and gardening. She has many interests but these and writing take precedence over dusting and dining.
As a writer, she writes both fiction and non-fiction. She was editor for the Highway Bookshop, a small-press publisher in Canada's James Bay Frontier.
She has been published in Canadian Living Magazine, Mountainside Fitness, and is a contributing writer to Treasures, an antiques magazine based in Calgary, Alberta.
As a gardener, she loves the aesthetics of garden design and the romance of gardening with roses, made clearer when reading Rambling Roses for the Romantic Garden and How to Grow Roses in Trees. This joy, she inherited from her father who was a true English gardener.
Her garden blog is Romantic Gardening, created to inspire the gardener to think beyond adding a few foundation plantings for curb appeal, but to see it as an art and something that appeals to all her senses.
As an junker and antique dealer, she loves it all. Her first purchase was made at the age of 16, a Victorian brass hat pin with a miniature photo on its tip. It was the beginning of a life long passion for old things. She has since exhibited in antique shows, sold in numerous brick and mortar antique malls and markets as well as online. She has bought and sold everything from antique jewelry and Victorian parlor chairs to primitive baskets and collectibles.
Lorraine still occasionally deals in vintage clothing. Her article Buying and Selling Vintage Clothing was written in an effort to show others where to begin. She also has a personal collection of rare books and rare prints. The Joy of Collecting Antique and Vintage Books and Antique Hand-Colored Botanical Prints will give readers the basics.
Lorraine is well-traveled and has had many adventures off the beaten-path. She lives in an old log house in the country, surrounded by gardens, meadows, ponds and forests – a quiet place to follow her bliss.
